Good blender for the money. see added edit at end.

It's time to replace our 20+ year old Krups blender. Switches stuck and the engine itself throbbed as if to say its days were numbered. I really didn't want to spend hundreds on one of those fancy blenders, but I know I wanted something powerful enough to process ice cubes and frozen fruit. The night before I had to make a breakfast smoothie using an old blender because it just couldn't grind the frozen stuff. This blender has that kind of power - and more if you need it - and it has an auto-reverse function in case the motor stalls. Another thing I really wanted was a glass model. Yes, I suppose these plastics have the advantage of not shattering if dropped, but over time this clear plastic will scratch and become cloudy. This new one is a bit trickier to fit to the engine but I think I'll get the hang of it soon. This may be my only reservation on the matter, but it is minor. This particular model didn't turn up in a Google search for the top ten mixers under $200, but there were other Oster models that were found for a few dollars more; Their differences were usually traits I didn't want or need. It seemed to have the most performance for the lowest price and I can't ask for more. Recommended. Edit: The only thing that bothers me about this blender is that it leaks through the base. So it's VERY important that you make sure someone you know with Herculean strength tightens the base BEFORE you put anything inside. Of course you need a strong person to loosen the base after you finish mixing.
