This heater is probably the best heater I have had and I have tried several. It's important that you read the instructions, don't buy more heater power than you need to maintain, and generally understand how the heater works. 1) The instructions expressly state that the heater must not be placed vertically in the tank. This is because the temperature sensor is at the top of the heater and the heat rises. When the heater is placed vertically in your aquarium, all heat generated is compounded and rises to the sensor. This leads to inaccurate heater thermometer readings and increases the number of times the heater must be cycled on and off, shortening its lifespan. 2) People tend to buy more energy than they need or can provide. If you have a 300w heater you need a pretty decent flow. I pointed the output of my Fluval 406 directly at my 300w heater. This ensures the temperature stays accurate, reduces the number of heater on/off cycles and prevents the heater from showing LF.3) In most cases it is best to have several small heaters on top of one, be it After all, you have an aquarium with a high flow large heater. This is a good heater but be smart, read the instructions and don't buy more power than your power can handle.
