This is my review of a device that I have only used for three days. Let's see.
I took the device as a weak replacement for control panels from blackmagick and perfectly understood what I was doing.
In general, the device can and should be used. He needs to be understood. For me, using the device seems to be more familiar than the mouse. As if I worked with him before the mouse, although I have been using the mouse from the very beginning of working at the computer, and this is 1995, his leg))
There are far more ways to get close to the device for precise and efficient cursor manipulation than to a mouse, and this is an advantage over any mouse. If I didn't like the device, I wouldn't write so much criticism.
The cursor is a relative concept. That's all we can do with the mouse/trackball.

Pros

Compared to a mouse 1. The manipulator does not need to be held in your hand. Personally, this moment is a forest for me, although I have been at the computer since 1995. But someone has tunnel syndromes and discomfort. 2. The device does not need a lot of space on the table, since we do not move the device itself. 3. Pressing the button and at the same time you know for sure that the cursor will not move. This is a real plus. Sometimes you need. 4. Here I would add one more advantage over the mouse - there is no need to track the start point of the cursor if we move the cursor around the start point, but if not for one thing - the sensors do not track slow manipulations of the ball. They "wake up" them. And this is a software bug - more on that below.

Cons

1. The most important point - the device cannot be arranged with the correct lever "from the palm", as is the case with a mouse. It takes effort to move away with gentle movements. Where is it needed? - yes anywhere - rings in Davinci resolve, Points of curves. Playhead shift on the timeline. There are many more examples that can be given. Yes! the device is more convenient than a mouse, if you get used to it, but this moment cannot be bypassed. The balls can be lubricated with human fat, cleaned, whatever, but you will not have a sure leverage when manipulating. Or you will have to pinch your wrist on the edge of the table so that the brush touches the ball more confidently, but it’s still not the same. If the shear force of the ball along the axis was equal to 0, then even in this case there would be a problem. The motor skills of the hand are not as accurate without the proximal fulcrum. 2. Kensinftonworks. You can create several profiles in the program, but the point is that if you want to change the functionality for a key so that it works in all profiles, you will have to change this functionality in all profiles. Functionality cannot be distributed. 3. Very weak device manual. Booklet on default buttons and all. How to care for the device, tips for use - Zero! 4. Technical support only in English. 5. A very important drawback that everyone turns a blind eye to is the dragging / sticking of the left button to operate with actions. On the mouse, I held down the button and I can manipulate the device very accurately. If I hold down the drag button on this trackball with either finger, it will be harder for the rest of my hand to precisely manipulate the pointer. To do this, a crutch was made to the device in the form of the fact that one of the keys can be mapped. Here, I hope, a matter of habit. 6. Hot keys ctrl+cmd+alt+shift to quickly change the speed of the cursor. Does not work. 7. The very sticking of the left button works disgustingly. Random scroll (horizontal rotation of the ball) and we get a sharp detachment of the button. 8. The device does not respond to slow scrolling of the ball
