We bought a 42 inch Vizio flat screen from a friend for $20. It worked fine but there was no remote control. My wife now uses it as a second computer monitor but she needed a remote control so we ordered this. It worked well once the included batteries were installed. It's worth the little money it costs. By the way, lest you think that they carelessly lost the remote control, I should mention that we visited her house a while ago. I gave her two year old son one of her remotes and asked him to throw it away and he ran straight to the kitchen to do it. Mom may have stuck an unhappy tongue at me as she ran to get it. Apparently, the two-year-old thought it was a fun game and most likely threw in the trash any remote control that came within reach.
