This is a beautiful coat. Extremely thin and light. I have Columbia pants with Omni-Heat thermal reflective technology, so I know they can be quite warm, but it's no wonder. If you need a minus coat I don't think this will do as the only winter coat. This morning the temperature was 31 degrees and according to the weather channel "feels like 26". There was a light breeze and the sky was perfectly clear. I went outside with my usual base layers - mid-weight North Face base layer plus Columbia fleece - that's what I usually wear at home (set to 68 degrees Fahrenheit), then it's a coat and gloves. I also have a pair of Columbia Omni pants with a warm lining because the coat isn't long enough to keep my feet warm. It comes up to mid-thigh and only mid-calf can keep my legs warm. I also have a hood. The coat is buttoned throughout. I stood outside for just a few minutes - less than 5 minutes I think - while my breakfast cooked on the stove. It was good. I wasn't "roasted," but I wasn't very cold either. Just a touch of cold. If I went for a walk or engaged in moderate activity, it might be warm enough. I have a thicker down jacket below the knee and it's definitely warmer, but at the same time I feel like a mama bear. The Mighty Lite is perfect for when you need to be more agile and active or when you need to be in your car or shopping at the mall so you don't overheat and carry a big heavy coat. For 20 and under is not warm enough. 30 years old is fine as long as you exercise at least moderately and layer well. However, everyone's tolerance for cold is different. Yesterday I saw someone walking without shaking, in a short sleeve and shorts, and I was wrapped in 3 layers. Just the sight sent shivers down my spine. If you're like that lady who can only walk around in a t-shirt and shorts in her 40s, the Mighty Lite might be all you need in a winter storm, but for me it's a good fall coat or an extra winter coat. Coat for specific occasions. I also checked the coat in a light drizzle. Waterproof seems good, but don't count on a true waterproof jacket in heavy rain. It's not made for that. This coat is true to size. I have many Columbia clothes in sizes from small to medium and for this coat I bought small. It fits well, with room for the middle layers. However, the slit in the armpit/chest area is generous and very thin in the thigh area. My hip size is larger than my bust line so the hips are tight and the bodice is very roomy. If you have a heavy top, this coat will most likely suit you. This coat is so smooth and simple that you can put it on and take it off easily and quickly. No buttons, snaps, laces or Velcro. The hood stays put (at least for me) when I pull it fully closed. When the zip is fully open I can't even take the hood off! So the lack of a drawstring to tighten the hood is not a minus for me. Because it's so thin and a bit tight, I can even wear it under my long, baggy coat if I have to go to a very cold place like Alaska or something. The "night" color is dark grey-blue, in case you're wondering. Dark blue in daylight. Dark gray under tungsten light. There is a slight sheen as seen in the photo. It's a beautiful color and goes with almost everything. The bottom line is that the all-consuming fodder is great, but not magical. There is no substitute for an extra long, thick and high fill down coat that feels like a rolled up blanket with sleeves. But this coat packs well, looks cool, warms (to an extent) and is very practical. coat, you won't feel much heat. It is better to wear it indoors for at least a few minutes to retain "warmth". I've also noticed this with my fully thermal lined pants so I usually wear them indoors as well as they don't overheat as long as my room temperature doesn't exceed 70F. Update: I'm not a fan of simple flashes. I love that it is a 2 way zip so you can open it from the bottom to give more space when in the car etc but the zip is difficult to open. In more than half of the cases, the tip does not go all the way through. Once it moves, it slides nicely over the teeth, which is very frustrating when you're in a hurry.
