Review on ๐ŸŒˆ Goal Zero Light Mini 4-Pack: USB Powered LED String Lights with Color Shades for Versatile Lighting by Kevin Cole

Revainrating 3 out of 5

Bright, functional and overpriced

This review will be a value for money review of the LaL mini. Oh, and I have 3 of these so obviously they're worth buying for me overall. For such a small and low-power flashlight, these mini lights are pretty impressive in terms of brightness. They won't illuminate your entire campsite or home with enough light to read a book. You can provide navigable lighting so you don't stumble in the dark. Throwing in lantern mode has a radius of just over 10 feet. With 3 of these lights (the number I have) connected together you can illuminate a large area in a home or campsite well. A decent power supply will power the lights both individually and in a chain for some time. These little flashlights are pretty efficient. I don't primarily use these lights for hiking. I don't think they would have survived a long ride without careful packaging and protection. I'll come back to that later. I use these lights during power outages and camping (car camping). So why 3 stars? Because at $20 a lamp, these minis just aren't good enough to warrant a higher rating. The actual switch that controls the light is flimsy and I doubt it will hold up in my backpack once I've done 10-16 miles cross country. In fact, I don't even trust lights to try. The little silicone ball around the light that controls the range of the headlight/lantern is just a generic cheap silicone mold that wears out and can break. Alternatively, you can pick up a whole range of Biolite Mini lights for about the same price. In short, if you like GZ and don't mind that some of their products are overpriced, you'll find these lights pretty good if you're willing to protect them from damage while hiking. If you don't care too much about company loyalty and are looking for strict value, GZ is out of your market and not making your money. There are just too many other options with better prices and similar features to justify buying a Mini. As a consumer, you have a choice. UPDATE: QC is a little missing. After some initial testing, I noticed that one mini monitor was brighter than the other two. I tested the lamps in different configurations and the same light was always brighter. This is a minor quality control issue, but there is something else to consider.
