These are good winter boots. They are waterproof, although the bottom is rubber for added waterproofing. In addition, there is an elastic drawstring at the top of the boot that can be attached to the child's foot to prevent snow or water from entering the boot. There is also a Velcro strip on the underside of the boot shaft (e.g. where the foot and lower leg meet) which can be tightened to prevent the boot from falling off. In fact, they seem to have thought of everything. My son uses them to play in the snow and hasn't gotten his feet wet yet. I will say they are not particularly warm - no extra fluffy insulation or anything - so make sure your kids have good warm socks. . I don't think heat is the problem. Again, I just put thick winter socks on my kid and he's fine. In my experience, they fit true to size even with thick socks. Generally normal boots.
