Review on 100cc Oxy-Sorb Oxygen Absorber Packets, 100 Pack - Enhanced Freshness Protection for Long Term Food Storage by Paula Stewart

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Don't forget to store them in an airtight container.

. There was a woman who took dehydration very seriously. I mean, she stored her dried foods in a vacuum bag, then placed them in another vacuum bag, and then in a food bucket (which is exactly what she did with foods she kept for long-term storage). She placed oxygen scavengers in each bag. The food that was dehydrating her and that she would use up sooner rather than later was sent to Mason's Jars. She also put O2 packets (1 per quart) in jars. Then she used the lid and the ring as if for canning. It is particularly nice that the lid is really tight thanks to the oxygen scavengers. It really works because I've tried it. Now I can dehydrate foods without them getting soggy over time. Most foods I plan to dehydrate are stored in vacuum-sealed bags, but products for immediate use are stored in mason jars with oxygen scavengers, lids, and mason rings. Using tin lids allows you to determine if oxygen scavengers are really working as the bubble in the tin lid flattens and seals the jar. You don't need to vacuum the jar. It really works! I've noticed that a lot of people say their absorbers went to pieces once they were opened. Just remember to put them in a vacuum bag or jar and they should be fine. Don't leave them hanging loose in the air. After opening the bag, I took out what I needed and vacuum sealed the remaining bags. I noticed that the pink indicator turned purple in the few seconds it took to remove 3 packs and seal the remaining packs. Don't worry, the display turned pink again after vacuuming. I know the packs are still ok because I removed a few more oxygen scavengers a few days later. Again, the indicator turned purple after 5 seconds exposure to air, but turned pink again after vacuum sealing. I think when they stop putting the Mason lid on the jar I will understand that they are no longer good.
