Revainrating 5 out of 5

Everything I hoped for!

I am a big TV fan from Australia and UK. Most shows from either country (Australia in particular) never make it to the US. To enjoy and own these shows on DVD, a DVD player with no region requirement is required. I've been looking at a few different models here on Amazon, mainly looking for something that has good customer reviews and is reasonably priced. After a lot of reading, testing and answering questions I settled on the Sony DVPSR370. I am very happy that I made the choice. The player is small and compact, taking up no more space than my TV. sits larger than my region 1 DVD player. It was very easy and quick to plug in and start the player. I have a Samsung Plasma TV that I bought in 2012 and it works great with it as it uses "RCA" (Red, Yellow and White) connectors. When I first plugged it in and turned it on, my TV didn't recognize it. I found that I connected incorrectly. My TV has five connectors on the back and I'm putting the yellow connector in the wrong place. After I fixed that, everything worked great. So after making sure everything is connected properly, it's definitely a must to check if there are any initial issues with the player. So far I've played US and UK DVDs and everything has worked great! I see many customer questions about the EU/US plug. The player comes with an American to European plug adapter, so there is no need to purchase it separately from the player. If you don't see it at first, be sure to check all the packaging materials inside the box. I had no trouble finding it, but there's always a chance it could get lost under some sort of packaging material. Another issue is that the manual is in Spanish and the DVD player's on-screen menus are in Spanish. My player came with a manual in English and Spanish. However, I didn't even have to use the manual to get the player working. It is very easy to switch the OSD menus from Spanish to English. Make sure you are not using a DVD and press the "Display" button on the remote control. Scroll down until you reach the toolbar at the bottom of the left menu. It should be called "configurar". Press the right button to open the toolbar pop-up menu and select "rapido". Another menu will open and you need to select "English". Once you do this, your OSD menus should be in English unless you change them again. The player doesn't work in whisper mode, but I didn't realize it was making enough noise to distract me from whatever I was watching. . I can't think of anything bad about this player that I can't recommend. I am very happy with my purchase and am considering buying a few more of these players to replace my region 1 players around the house.

Pros
  • Compact space saving design
Cons
  • Ugly packaging
