Player is good, remote weak

For years we went without a DVD player and relied on streaming services. But lately we've found that for some movies and series, it's easier to get DVDs from our local library. For such occasions I wanted a very basic DVD player. I tried this one. Setup is very simple, with an intuitive, old-fashioned menu. I connected the DVD player to the TV with all the settings in about 15 minutes. It's nice that the player comes with an HDMI cable. The picture quality is good, DVDs run smoothly and quietly. The problem is with the remote control. I found him to be very weak. Even when pointing directly at a player from 5 or 6 feet away, he was spotty. Often the player doesn't even notice the signal. Then he suddenly gets 2 or 3 button presses at the same time, causing the player to jump and glitch. I pointed the DVD player at where we sit, which helps but is still very inconsistent. And there's no other way to navigate DVD menus or control videos than with the remote control. We also have instances where the remote works well throughout the session. Hard to understand. I would say be careful with this product.

Pros
  • High marks for support and durability from testers
Cons
