The sharpener is very durable and easy to transport in the field. Simply unscrew the grinding diamond, pull it out of the handle, rotate it and put it back on the handle! This is a medium grit diamond so it is more aggressive than a plain steel whetstone and will leave fine scratches on the edge rather than polishing the edge! A great tool for working in the field or at home! I have one of these 30 years ago and loved it so much I recently bought a second one as my first one was put away while our new house was being built! This tool, a Gerber flat in a leather case, a Lansky sharpening system and a pair of serrated diamond sharpeners is pretty much what I've used in the field and at home! I am 68 years old and have been a hunter and fisherman all my life and have used this tool to sharpen knives, machetes, axes, scissors, hedge trimmers and secateurs!β¦β¦UPDATEβ¦.30 year old sharpener on both photos left along with the new one I recently bought. The only difference is the leather case. The tool is identical.
