Last time I had a fall the technician said the steering wheel wasn't straight because the steering rod bushings were worn; I didn't know what was causing this particular problem so I decided to replace them. I used Whiteline bushings to replace the stock steering rack bushings on a 2003 WRX with 161,000 miles. I can't tell you how they compare to new OEM bushings, but they compare very well to worn bushings. Steering response is back or improved, the steering wheel is now straight and when turned the car moves in the same direction as the steering wheel (no more play in the steering wheel). Also, when I was cruising around 70 mph on the interstate, I felt some movement in the front end as I was kicked by the crosswind, which also seems to have eased with the new steering bushings.
