Review on Peripheral Impeller Water Pump HP by Patrick Locke

Revainrating 3 out of 5

Good for specific purposes

I bought this pump to replace the 1/2 HP pump I use to power the solar heater for my outdoor hot tub. I run water through a black pipe on my barn's hot solar roof, which keeps the pool warm (around 90 degrees in the summer) and cleans with circulating chlorine. I bought this to replace a submersible pump, hoping the wire wouldn't go straight into the pool even though I have it on two GFCI circuits. There were two problems with the installation: 1. it was not powerful enough2. There should always be water in the pump to create suction and prevent rusting. I was able to overcome the second by designing a piping system, but the first meant I had to buy another submersible pump. Therefore not suitable for my purposes. I converted the pump into a water fountain which my kids love so I can use some of it but I will continue to buy submersible pumps for solar heating. It looks like this pump is primarily designed for professional farming use.
