Excellent chairs. They are lightweight, easy to carry and very durable for people weighing 150 to 200 pounds. The seating position is very low to the ground so you will feel like a small person next to regular lawn/camping chairs. However, bringing them to the beach was the original intention. We soon found that sand got into the holes where the rods were inserted and filled in a 1mm gap and then made it impossible to pull the rods out. So my suggestion is, if you're going to use them for the beach, don't. Get something different that doesn't use detachable bars. We bought two and used both and now one chair has permanently stuck bars and luckily the other was fine but all the paint is now worn off due to the abrasiveness of the sand. This is due to my ignorance and not a design flaw in the chair.
