I bought this unit hoping to better understand when to bale hay and if what I have already baled will be stored without forming. I live in a humid climate on the east coast of Maryland. From my previous experience, I figured the mid-teen hay was for dampness. The meter checked the bales for moisture between 27 and 33%. I kept checking the moisture of some bales because the humidity and ambient temperature remained high and I expected the hay to warm up. After four weeks the hay has not warmed up, does not look moldy and does not smell musty. The moisture meter still reads between 22 and 39%. I don't have much faith in this device and there should be a better sensor for testing hay bales that compensates for temperature and humidity. I plan to look for another counter.
