I've seen some YouTube videos on how to cut out an existing access panel. I would recommend that you cut a large cross from corner to corner, then use a utility knife to trace the edge of the hole to the filter access panel and cut off the area to be removed. You have very little access to cut the access panel, I used the Drexel multi tool and made a plunge cut to make an X.
