This lens is great fun if you can live with its limitations. First, they are quite difficult to use; don't think you'll get a typical macro lens. Magnification 4-4.5X. You pretty much need to use this lens on a focus guide/macro slider, and you need some sort of macro light. I decided to add some inexpensive LEDs to the telescopic arms. Because this lens works like a microscope lens, you need to know what you're dealing with. So if you want to photograph something that's say 0.5 cm / 0.25 inch, that's fine, think of a grain of rice. Everything else you get is just a small crop of the subject with razor-thin depth of field. The aperture range of the lens is from f2 to 16; I usually use it at f16. I've used it in the field, but it's tough. I use it more in my research to photograph very small shells. Since you have to get so close, anyone is unlikely to have any luck with a moving active object. However, if you can live within its limitations, it's a lot of fun. This lens will complement, not replace, the typical macro lens.
