Review on 💿 Inateck 3.5 Inch HDD Enclosure: High-Speed USB 3.0 Mesh Case with UASP Support - SA01003 by Justin Munajj

I bought this enclosure to replace an old all metal USB2.0 enclosure with an activity LED on the front but the power button wasn't a toggle switch (so it didn't automatically restart after a power outage). Inateck accepts a 3.5" SATA hard drive and requires an external power supply (adapter included). PROS: + Reasonable price + No tools required to install/remove the drive (although this can also be a disadvantage). Minus in terms of anti-theft protection)+ The power button is a toggle on/off switch, which means the drive will turn on after a power outage. In some cases, a push button is used, which means the drive won't turn on after a power failure until you press the button. BAD: -Only the grille is metal, the rest is plastic. The grille is only on one side, hence there is no "through" ventilation. There is no LED on the front, the only LED is on the back (where the USB cables plug in. This is bad because you can't immediately tell if the drive is powered on or is in use. There is a bit of LED on the metal grille but nothing visible from the front panel as there is no LED built in. A front LED or light tube showing the LED in the front would be a better design choice.) If the drive is powered on but the USB is not connected, LED off! This makes it difficult to tell if the power button is on or off, as the LED will go out when the USB cable is unplugged anyway! - The plastic doesn't seem strong and I'm not sure how it will hold up. in the long run if you often travel with it. If it sits on your desk as a permanent rear drive, that might not be a problem. All in all, this is a case that works, but the location of the LED and the operation may be a hindrance for some.
