USB3 powered enclosure for 3.5 " drives but has some flaws

I bought this enclosure to replace an old all metal USB2.0 enclosure with an activity LED on the front but the power button wasn't a toggle switch (so it didn't automatically restart after a power outage). Inateck accepts a 3.5" SATA hard drive and requires an external power supply (adapter included). PROS: + Reasonable price + No tools required to install/remove the drive (although this can also be a disadvantage). Minus in terms of anti-theft protection)+ The power button is a toggle on/off…

Functional, easy to install and beautiful.

I wanted to reuse a 3TB SATA hard drive that I removed from an old NAS. USB 3.0 required for my late 2014 Mac Mini. I chose this USB 3.0 enclosure thinking the mesh design would keep the drive cooler than most. Easy installation. You unlock the switch on the back, rotate the front door, and insert the SATA drive into the enclosure, making sure the SATA connectors are on the bottom (with the drive label facing up). Installing a 3.5" hard drive, like I did, just aligns things. Press down on the…

Sturdy case, extremely easy installation

I've recently bought three different 3.5 inch hard drive cases and I think this is my favorite. Durable plastic housing with metal grille for good ventilation. I love that it has the light output that the slightly cheaper Inateck case doesn't have, and that no tools or screws are required - just plug in the drive and close the door. I bought the PSU oriented 90 degrees to the power strip so it only occupies one plug, so I expected the same from this drive. Unfortunately, it's oriented in the…

Easy to install drive, can't find the right case size

I really like this case. It took me a while to figure out how to close the case with the drive inside, but after that it was easy. My drive is tight and there is no play even though there are no screws. I like the mesh top because 3.5" hard drives get a bit warmer than 2.5" hard drives. Dimensions 8 inches by 6 inches by 1.5? inches, making it difficult to find the right tote bag. I didn't find anything at Revain. They are about 7.5 inches long and 5 to 6 inches wide inside. I receive a pack of

Robust, expandable and flexible USB3 housing

I use this housing mainly for transferring raw video from on-site cameras. Get a full 240-250MB/s over USB3 on Seagate Barracuda, Exo drives. I like it because it's slim and doesn't take up valuable space in my Pelican travel case. Fully expandable to any SATA3 hard drive and any capacity. Looking forward to a 20TB Sata3 hard drive in 2021. Toolless is a nice key feature that allows me to quickly swap out other 16TB Ironwolf and Exos x16 hard drives. No problem with disabling USB3. The…

Highly recommended! Practical and functional housing for HDD!

Well designed and built. It seems more durable and less fragile than other hard drive cases. High quality power supply (UL certified). The mesh display sets it apart from most other cases because the hard drive isn't fully enclosed, allowing some heat to escape. Depending on the hard drive and how often it's used, heat can be a potential problem. Smothering a hard drive in a plastic case (which is fairly typical) can be very inconvenient and potentially lead to premature hard drive degradation.

Reliable and fast, but not very good cooling and durability

I needed a USB to SATA docking station that would make it easy to insert and remove drives and it did the job. Reliability is my number one priority, and I've managed to do that so far. I had no disconnects, crashes or freezes at all. I use Cable Matters instead of the one that comes with the dock, mainly because I needed more length and also because I trust Cable Matters more than the cables that come with this type of device. . Overall, the thing works reliably and that's all I really care…
