I have a 2007 Ford Explorer and this is the third backup camera system I have. It was very easy to install. The last thing I had to do was hook up my brake light wire, which really wasn't that hard. The monitor looks great. In this respect there is almost no comparison with previous units. There is a compromise. If you don't just start the car, it won't turn on the camera automatically when you reverse. However, you can always press the button to turn it on, even when you're stopping or driving ahead. I like that because sometimes I like to see what's behind me when I'm not backing up. The downside is that sometimes you have to remember to turn it on when backing up. I'm sure I'll get used to it. I would have given 5 stars if it weren't for this issue, but it makes installation a lot easier. I could see that for many people connecting to the brake light wires can be a big problem. I've only driven at night once since I've had it, but with the help of my reversing lights the picture was excellent. I had some questions for their customer support. and they were very available and quick to respond to my emails.
