Without this alarm the waste water ejector tank would rise to a dangerous level when the pump switch failed, which happens about every 3 years. When it last failed, liquid rose up the water heater drain and began flooding the room. Luckily I placed a water sensor alarm next to a floor drain and heard the alarm in time to shut off the plumbing, but this really is a "last resort". When this alarm is set, the siren will activate when the liquid level rises. 4 inches above the normal range for an ejector that is about 10 inches below the flood level. Think of it as an "early warning" indicator. The siren is loud enough to be heard, especially in the bathroom shower which opens into the cistern. Setup was easy. I'm not sure how long the rechargeable backup batteries will last, but I don't expect this to be a huge problem as everyone here is trained not to use the downstairs toilet in the event of a power outage as the ejector pump requires AC power . However, it's a good idea to have a backup battery for alarms in case you're unaware of the risks. If the backup batteries are lithium batteries, we hope they will last at least 5 years and can be replaced after the warranty expires.
