While I'm not an expert on recordable media, I've definitely used it for the last 10 years. In the past, especially when I was a student, I bought as much as possible and spent as little as possible. Over the years I've found this to be a short-sighted strategy for backing up my important files. Many brands are not very reliable over a long period of time. I've also moved a lot and my drives have taken a bit of abuse in the process. In my more mature years, I decided to stop wasting money on cheap discs that often resulted in misspellings and easily scratched discs, and found a brand I could stay loyal to. So far, TDK has been my brand. I checked 3 rolls of 50 DVDs for this type of DVD-R last year and got great results with these discs. These discs appeared to be more substantial (ie weight/thickness) than some of the more fragile generic brands often found online. The price is quite comparable to many other brands of the same quantity and appears to provide a more even successful burn and longer lasting results.
