No instructions - LED brake light. Requires diode

My Dual Sport has an aftermarket Baja Designs fender taillight. The tail light uses 3 wires for ground, tail light and brake light. When I plugged in a Purishion Flash Controller (GS-100A) and turned the ignition on, the taillight went through a series of flashes and the brake did nothing after that. I've tried all combinations of cable connections with no success. I even wondered if I was wrong about which wire was the tail light and brake light. Now I turned on the second light when one of the four LED clusters on the first light went out and I took apart the first light to see how it worked. Here's how it works: when braking twice, current flows through the same LED circle to make them brighter (running + braking). Since it's a single circuit, I assumed that when the bike was on, the chase current would return to the flash controller, causing the initial flash sequence, and then never shut off to apply the brake or allow another flash sequence. *** Putting a diode on the red wire of the flash controller to prevent reverse flow will solve this problem. Instructions were not included. It would be nice if there were, including troubleshooting. Finally, if there was already a diode in the design, it would work for me out of the box. Luckily I had a spare diode on the shelf. If it proves helpful, I've included photos of my taillight, circuit board, and trace overlay from the original light. "Brake", "Tail" and "Ground" indicate where the original pins were connected.
