This really looks and feels like a serious and capable tool. It comes packaged together in a nice zippered case with custom molded foam inserts, ensuring that everything is kept together securely. The fabric and the foam both seem durable enough to protect the product and its accessories for years to come.The entire kit includes a magnetic mounting bracket, two rechargeable batteries (one to operate the device, the other as a spare), a battery charger, a battery adapter for using standard batteries, and a green plastic laser target.The magnetic mount is handy provided you’ve got a metal surface for it to mount on. For the work I’ve done, I’d rather have a traditional screw-on clamp mount, or something that can fasten to wood for framing, decks, etc. It can be used with a tripod or just placed on any reasonably level surface, so the mounting bracket is not completely necessary. If you’re working with metal framing or have wall access to pipes, I could see the magnet being more useful, but for me it’s almost a novelty item.I like that they include two batteries, it's frustrating to interrupt your workflow to charge a battery. With the included AA adapter, it’s nice peace of mind that if you’re depending on this device, you can keep it powered up. I don’t like the battery charger being two pieces. I have other devices with similar chargers that manage to put the charging equipment into one piece. Having a separate cord that plugs into the actual charger is just one more piece of equipment to keep track of, and it just feels unnecessary for it to be two pieces.The included manual is severely lacking in my opinion. It seems like the company was checking off boxes (‘did we include the disclaimers? Did we include the warnings? Etc.) rather than actually putting any thought forward for the end user. I understand that using a laser level isn’t quite ‘rocket science’, but this device has different settings and modes that could certainly benefit from having full instructions. The book looks like it’s going to be packed with information, but it’s actually a five-language manual so full of disclaimers and warnings that the entirety of the operating instructions are contained in a single page. Not nearly enough information to fully understand the device.Most importantly though, this is a useful device, at a much lower cost than the major brands. At the time of this review, the similar DeWalt model, for example, retails for $449. I think this device will do everything that DeWalt will do in terms of the "360 degree” laser leveling. The beam is plenty bright even in a well lit room, and it can be used with a remote sensor to increase the range. It levels itself as long as it’s within 0.4 degrees of level, and it can shoot three different layout lines at a respectable distance. I’m betting the DeWalt has a better instruction manual though.Overall, I think for the device itself, its a solid enough product to consider as a less expensive alternative to the major brands. It’s definitely a useful tool, and at a very reasonable price comparatively.
