When pushing, pull on the HVAC unit to avoid breaking the HVAC control unit stop screw. You want it to be tight so trust it to hold up and push hard. It feels like the same plastic as the OEM factory part so I'm not sure how it will hold up, but after all the metal searching I decided to just go with it and now I don't need my fan controller with my turning fingers.
