Review on 🚪 Toddleroo by North States Essential Stairway & Walkway Baby Gate - 40.55" Wide Hardware Mount, Ideal for Standard Stairways (24.5" - 40.55" Wide, 30" Tall, White) by Natasha Boulden

I like to buy this type of product based on various reviews. This product seemed to have decent reviews. When I received it, I read the instructions, which were average at best. The instructions could definitely be better, but that's not really my complaint here - I figured it out and installed it with no problems. The problem is that the locking mechanism has two set screws (pictured), both of which contain an internal sprint. When you close the gate, the pin is pushed in and the spring pushes it back out as it enters the gate lock. However, these pens are very cheap and one of my pens broke the internal spring mechanism. The needle in the photo above has a spring visible at the back end of the needle - this is now unusable. If the same thing happens with the other pin the entire gate will become garbage (as it is now only half the gate can be closed - probably dangerous for my 14 month old). Additionally, my now 14 month old (just over 12 months at the time) loved grabbing the vertical bars and shaking the gate when it was closed. Somehow a 12-month-old baby was able to shake this gate so hard that the vertical tube right at the gate broke. Now remember that this product is called "Baby Gate" - it must be many times stronger than the strongest known baby. My child is definitely not a powerhouse. I am writing this review almost 4 months since I bought this gate. Whichever way you look at it, it's clearly an unsatisfactory and cheap product. Luckily for me, I didn't block the stairwell or other extremely dangerous pathways for the baby, otherwise the consequences could be incredibly serious.
