I am sure this product will work for popcorn tops that are not aged or repainted like mine. But when I read the reviews they were great so I gave it a try. In my experience it is very difficult to get the right angle on this item so you can apply the right amount of pressure instead of measuring the drywall. I ended up dampening the ceiling with a garden sprayer and letting it sit for a good hour, then scraping it off by hand with just a spatula. When I tried this tool, I didn't have the stamina and strength to hold it and apply the necessary pressure while climbing stairs. Others might have had better results if they were stronger/higher and in better condition. My shoulder hurts so I found it impossible. The results of using this tool caused damage to the drywall under the popcorn, which then led me to patch/spat/sand and repair harder than it was worth.
