I looked at this video recorder for the first time some time ago. In this review I said that the conversion quality from this machine was really excellent and I stand by that claim. However, many owners report that when this machine fails completely and completely, it is a "snow" problem - something fundamentally wrong with the design of this machine, and snow in almost all of these cases is the result of this design problem. Well, the good news is that if you have a problem and it really isn't due to worn out video heads, you can most likely fix the image by rotating the housing. I do this by sticking a suitable "wedge" under the right front corner of the car, lifting that corner and twisting the chassis quite a bit. About 0.25 inch/5mm works fine for me, but if you're using a real wedge you can vary the twist until you get the result you want. Now your mileage can vary and I agree that this is totally unacceptable. Personally, I think Samsung really should give a full refund to anyone who bought these devices, no matter how old they are. I was stupid enough to buy two! If I ever have the time and inclination, I'll pull the VCR out of my system and see if there's a more elegant way to solve the problem (I think it might be possible to pitch adjust the subassembly that holds the drum). but as long as the wedge works well I guess.
