Review on πŸ¦– Tyrannosaurus Educational Figurine by Schleich Dinosaurs by Jeff Pettis

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Fantastic detail and (despite inaccuracies) sculpture.

First impressions: It's bigger (taller?) than it looks. The skull is set at an absurd angle and in such a way that the neck looks too long. Looks very thin without extra shrink wrap. Huge feet with ridiculously thin ankles. Overall it looks pretty good, more accurate than its predecessors. This Tyrannosaurus rex rendition is the third modern Schleich sculpt after the first two to feature the skull design heavily based on the Rex series from Jurassic Park. There are so many good moments in this character that are balanced out quite nicely by his bad moments. Pros: Insane level of detail. The scale sculpting really shines on this model, looking almost crocodile-like with scale accents all over her body. Especially along the back and skull crests, as in the photo. The skull itself looks pretty decent, with an amazing level of detail that goes well beyond the details of the body. There are ear holes on both sides of the skull! And this figure is taller than I thought it would be, towering over the running Tyrannosaurus Papo. I have posted comparison photos with Safari LTD. Feathered Tyrannosaurus. It is even larger than the Safari Rex. The downsides include a pretty bland color scheme, although I can't really complain because they go together pretty well. The dark spots on the head provide contrast but overemphasize the openings in the skull. Another problem is anatomical inaccuracies. The arms and neck are WAY too long compared to what current research supports. As mentioned, this is also a fairly skinny character, much thinner than the other characters and almost believably emaciated. Too thin ankles for the size of the foot, although this can help with stability. Mine came in with uneven feet, but the skinny ankles actually helped me bend them evenly without heat support. All in all good things from Schleich make their new line a blast. Many shapes to avoid and this one is not one of them. Note their juvenile Tyrannosaurus Rex, which looks far more accurate than this model and is arguably the most accurate model Schleich Rex has ever created.
