Review on Blu-Ray Player Laptop External USB DVD RW Burning Drive by Jae Newton

The drive comes with two cables and basic instructions. From the sheet I could see that the drivers were loaded onto the player, so I just plugged the player into a USB 2.0 port on my Windows 7 64-bit laptop. The drivers loaded in about 1-2 seconds and everything was ready to go. The installation CD is not included in the scope of delivery and is not required for the hardware. The device is detected and identified as a Sony/Optiarc BC-5500S instead of a Panasonic/Matsushita as described on the Revain page. Functionally it's the same and it's certainly acceptable to me. . (I noticed the seller may be different on this site; I got mine from M.Top.) Blu-ray player software not included. You need to provide your own to play Blu-ray disc. On my 2.2/2.4GHz dual core Turbo laptop with Windows 7 64-bit, the device plays Blu-ray discs, DVDs and CDs. On my dual-core 1.0/1.4GHz core Windows 7 64-bit netbook, the unit doesn't play BluRay, but it does play DVDs and CDs. The netbook simply isn't powerful enough for Blu-rays. JimUpdate November 22, 2015 Downgrading my rating to two stars (from five stars). Somehow the windows updates replaced the drivers so the device is not recognized as Blu-ray. Yes, I still have the Blu-ray spacer software; it is a driver problem. If Microsoft and Blu-Ray teamed up to develop a ball bearing, they would make a flat spot on one side of it. Jim
