Review on Sandisk Extreme Memory Card SDCFX 008G A61 by Jose Ballard

Revainrating 4 out of 5

A must for anyone with a fast DSLR

After a recent upgrade to the 5DmkIII, I found that my old Sandisk Ultra series cards were no longer fast enough to work with the camera Keep up. The Ultra series cards (30 MB/s) derived from the 5DmkII cope well with their modest FPS speed. With the 5DmkIII's higher burst speed, the cards will clog up the buffer and slow down the camera after about 6 frames. As I rarely shoot bursts longer than 3 frames, this wasn't a problem on most of my wedding shoots, but it happened often enough that I decided to order some faster cards. When I received them, I immediately formatted them and took some test shots. The camera buffer cleared much faster and I was able to get 3 additional frames for a total of 9 before noticing the slowdown. Keep in mind that this is the case when shooting in RAW + JPEG, so my file sizes are much larger. I've been using the cards for a few weeks and they're perfect. I have just ordered another batch of cards and will be ordering more over time to replace my aging Ultra series cards.

Pros
  • Don't waste too much time
Cons
  • Something's wrong
