A must for anyone with a fast DSLR

After a recent upgrade to the 5DmkIII, I found that my old Sandisk Ultra series cards were no longer fast enough to work with the camera Keep up. The Ultra series cards (30 MB/s) derived from the 5DmkII cope well with their modest FPS speed. With the 5DmkIII's higher burst speed, the cards will clog up the buffer and slow down the camera after about 6 frames. As I rarely shoot bursts longer than 3 frames, this wasn't a problem on most of my wedding shoots, but it happened often enough that I…

Pros
  • Don't waste too much time
Cons
  • Something's wrong

Very fast card: Memory cards

I've only been using Sandisk cards for 3 years. No particular reason other than that they appear to be a reputable brand and I will not risk my photographic data with an unbranded card. I know from experience that you usually get what you pay for and CF cards are no exception. I have a Canon 5D Mark II camera. I shoot in RAW mode and each 21 megapixel image takes up about 26 megabytes of data. This card keeps up with me even when I'm shooting in 8 or 10 frame burst mode. Great card. Highly…

Received a faulty card

I don't know how to rate this. The first card I received was repaired by the manufacturer and didn't work. This was deceptive as everything seemed fine but then I got some errors writing to the card but I formatted it and then it seemed to work fine. Until I tried removing the photo from the card! In the end I got everything but 3 photos. However, the seller replaced my card and the new (refurbished) card works great.

Pros
  • Easy setup

  • Minor issues

Sandisk is totally reliable

I've been using Sandisk for many years and after buying a new Canon 5D Mark II with 21MB files I needed more storage space than my current 4GB one Cards will fit so I started buying this 8GB card which will give me around 300 images (depending on ISO etc). I'll be announcing a few more and probably a 16GB card. I had some issues with Lexars a few years ago and switched to Sandisk and the only card I had an issue with was due to my own mistake of forgetting to turn off the camera when I inserted

not too small, not too big.

I prefer to shoot on smaller cards so I don't have to store all my day's shots on one card for security reasons. I shoot with a Nikon D700 so file sizes are around 15MB. I can shoot as fast as I want and the card holds up well. Of course, if you shoot with a higher resolution camera, you may need a faster card. It just depends on your shooting style and image size. For me it was just right!

  • Free for educational purposes
Cons
  • Hard to say

Corruption the first time I used it.

Not satisfied! I replace my CF cards annually and they have expired. After ordering one of these and it didn't turn up, instead of waiting for a replacement I ordered another (I needed this to photograph a birth). It arrived just in time, I formatted the card and did a mini session with my kids to make sure the card was working properly. Thank goodness I did it because the card was damaged. I was able to recover 80% of the images, but if it came to the birth I'd be screwed. Luckily I still had…

Reliable, Fast Storage

So far I have been pleased with the performance of this Sandisk product. I've been using Sandisk memory in my Canon DSLRs for a while and have never had a problem with any of their cards. They cost more, but I find reliable CF cards worth it. In terms of performance, the Extreme cards are excellent. Until the buffer is full, my Canon 7D takes about the same number of continuous shots with the Extreme (60MB/s) as with my old Extreme III (about 20 RAW images (18MP) at 8+ fps). However, once the…

8GB Sandisk Extreme CF memory card

I haven't had any buffering issues with this card so far, although I haven't tried running RAW and JPEG at the same time. This is a more expensive card than the regular SD variant, but some cameras only work with a CF card [mine is one]. I prefer smaller memory cards for several reasons. First, I can shoot by subject [e.g. landscape, wedding, house shots, etc.], and second, it doesn't allow me to put all my pictures on one card. I remember using rolls of film in the past and often having a…
