I didn't buy them for groceries although now I wouldn't hesitate to do so. I bought these to hold a huge collection of jewelry beads and used them for organization, their size/price/clarity made them exceptional for the task (and the flexibility makes it easy to pour which I'm sure will come in handy at mealtimes ). Also). I was able to stack multiple beads on top of each other (and some of the beads are stone, so a container can weigh over a pound) without losing structural integrity. With pearls, as with food, it's important to remove the lid without using too much force, so the contents don't spill everywhere and the lids come off very easily, but it's definitely airtight. The only thing I can't speak to is their ability to microwave. I think I'll buy these for future use, they were incredibly comfortable.
