Most Full Featured Folding Palette

I was looking for a folding palette because I'm one of those watercolor artists who loves to hold their palette while working, rather than having one on the table. This one has a very good balance, because the thumb rest is towards the center, and the small fold-out extra mixing palette space further enhances its balance. It's a larger palette too, so I like to use it in the studio. For travel I instead use Yasutomo's Niji Foldout Watercolor Palette , which is a good two inches shorter, thinner, while still featuring a similar nice balance.Picture: my palette in use. The white paint is actually gouache, which I use when I need opacity (all my watercolor paints are semi-transparent to transparent) or white detailing (I dislike masking fluid, and mostly still prefer to use the white of the paper whenever possible).(For the curious, the colors are Daniel Smith: Lemon Yellow, Quinacridone Rose, Phthalo Blue Red Shade, Permanent Brown, Indanthrone Blue, Yellow Ochre, Phthalo Green Blue Shade, Quinacridone Purple, Lunar Black, Organic Vermilion; and Winsor & Newton's "Burnt Sienna", which is actually Transparent Red Oxide. The Titanium White gouache is from Da Vinci.)

Pros
  • 30 compartments in all, 20 small wells, 4 medium wells, 4 large mixing wells, 1 extra large mixing well, 1 long slot.
Cons
  • The color mixing wells may be difficult to use or clean for artists with limited dexterity
