Review on ๐Ÿƒ BUFFALO TeraStation 3420DN 4-Bay Desktop NAS 16TB (4x4TB) with Included Hard Drives & 2.5GBE by Dominic Ceo

TeraStation 3410DN is a great buy for my home NAS

I bought a 12TB Buffalo TeraStation 3410DN Desktop NAS configured with Raid5. I've been waiting for the prices to come down for a while and I wasn't disappointed after a week with the TeraStation. Setup was easy. Plugged it in and powered it on, discovered the NAS with DHCP, then set a static IP and updated the firmware. The firmware took about 20 minutes and I was starting to think it wasn't going to work like one of the reviews said, but it just ended up taking longer than I thought it would. Ships with WD Red NAS drives, not green drives. Comes with iSCSI capabilities. , which is great for my Win10 PC so I can use it as a backup drive (no NAS mapping) and I'll do some testing with other server VMs that need iSCSI drives, like SQL Server. Feedback on low disk space, so I'll set an alert to email me when disk space is less than 10%. I transferred 4.5TB in a few days by regularly spinning up my old portable USB drives and the transfer speed was good. It's not slow. Depending on if there are a lot of small files I see 1-20MB/s, when the files are bigger I see 30-70MB/s and have seen a peak of 100-110MB/s. Overall good as expected from Gigabit Ethernet. If you have an unusual home switch that supports link aggregation, you can merge both 1GbE Ethernet links into one 2GBE link (port aggregation). Unfortunately I don't have such a switch at home, but overall the 1gbe is still very good. I also set up TeraStation to back up DropBox and OneDrive data using TeraStation's built-in cloud storage feature and it works well. It's not all perfect though, the Android remote control app (I'm not sure about the iPhone app) needs a bit of work. That's fine at best, but it works once you figure out what two different apps are required. All in all if you look at reviews of this product I have an IT background and in my opinion this home NAS is worth buying.
