Synthetic (Fleece, I'm looking at you.) Blankets stink and are difficult to pull out of dog hair, and then my washing machine hums when I try to wash them. You keep the stink. There are no natural materials. I bought these blankets hoping the weave of the material wouldn't tangle on individual hairs and make a big, ugly mess. I was so right. They're a bit stiff at first, even after washing, but over time they'll soften and become more flexible. They are thick and therefore offer some padding. We bought a deep red/black blanket so they don't get stained or ruined by the red mud of the California mountains while camping. My dogs seem to love them and when they get cold they bury themselves underneath and get hot when I pet them. I can't say enough good things about these blankets for my use but it's amazing when you take them outside and give them a little shake and all the hair is gone. We've been using them for a few weeks now and they don't smell. Win.
