They work very well. We put one in the bathroom where there is no outlet, just a ceiling lamp (old house) as a night light. Switches on reliably and has enough light for nightly visits. Doesn't look like the batteries will run out quickly, same 3 AAA batteries lasted 3 months and still work. Another was used in the lid of a tool box, a third in an unlit closet. During a power outage my daughter brought all 3 into the kitchen while she was preparing dinner. We've used the included magnetic dots to attach them to non-magnetic surfaces so they can be easily moved temporarily for update. We bought 3 more sets. Use it in the stairwell (handy when you can't free your hand for the light switch), in the bottom corner of a cupboard (so you can see what's WAY behind it), etc. I keep one on my fridge for when I need a quick light for Example to look in your mailbox after dark or check under a chair. Very handy in the household where flashlights seem to be wandering. Also for a relative's house. She uses them in the hallway so she doesn't have to leave the light on all the time when she's just going through the dirty laundry etc. She also swears that she put one next to where her cat used instead of the toilet, switched it on off! TIP: My hand strength isn't great, so I use a flathead screwdriver or blunt-tipped scissors to twist the back. Just give it a little sideways nudge and it snaps or closes. All mine work out of the box, but I test them out right away, even if I don't need to use them right away. You can leave the protective film on top and step back to check. It's not always instant. Remember that it needs to be in a dark place AND detect movement.
