These make an EXCELLENT alternative to road flares for your car emergency kit! It was Christmas night last year when my wife ran over something on the way home from a Christmas party and got a flat tire. We both have AAA, but were stranded on the side of the road with our two little girls (one was only seven months old!) on a DARK road in an upscale neighborhood that would have probably tried to sue us for leaving burn marks on their crappy old roads! I could mark our position to warn off other drivers on the dark windy roads, of our stranded car ahead and let the AAA driver know where to find us. This is also advantageous in the summertime or drought/burn ban conditions as an alternative to traditional road flares, which pose a fire hazard. I DID try to crack one on the other day, one of the old ones, for the kids to play with, and it failed to illuminate, so that was a shock! The other two activated just fine.
