We just wanted something we could have in cars for emergency roadside repairs at night, natural disasters, etc. I snapped one to test and it didn't even light up our tent enough to see the sleeping bags. Not like "we couldn't read by these" but straight up you might still bump into another human being in the space if this is your light source. We'll look elsewhere.

I have used them for night SCUBA diving, cave and cavern exploration to include underwater, and in hazardous atmospheres as a primary light (non-flammable) and they produce light with almost no heat. I buy these for power outages and for the kids to use at Halloween. We have tried the green ones and the yellow. Yellow seems to give the brightest light. These usually last all night and into the next day before they loose their glow. I have purchased these multiple times now and have not been disappointed. Chemical lights are fragile they have a small glass membrane that is used to activate the chemicals. They can in a loose bag, no padding, no peanuts, no protection at all.
