Review on Seachem Flourish Excel Carbon Supplement for Enhanced Bioavailability by Rebecca Bright

Revainrating 1 out of 5

So far so good for shrimp safety and plant growth.

At the time of writing this review I have been using this product for 2 months in 2 different aquariums. 29 gallon tank, fully planted, high power LED light, pressurized CO2 system and 5 gallon nano tank with medium to high CO2 free LED lighting. 29 gallon tank I use this product along with micro and macro dosing just for experimentation. with maximum plant growth and color, not as a substitute for CO2 or algae control. Can't tell if this makes much of a difference as the aquarium is healthy and beautiful with or without. The 5 gallon tank is more interesting. This tank is home to my small colony of cherry red shrimp, which is the one I was most worried about when using this product. Shrimp can be quite tender, so I don't want to add anything to their tanks. I am two months old and the shrimp have not experienced any side effects. I did not find a single dead shrimp and noticed no slowdown in their reproduction or difficulty skinning. So I agree with Seachem that their product is safe for shrimp. I will definitely update this review in 6 months to see if anything has changed. As far as plant growth in the 5 gallon tank goes, I am very happy with the results. Although the growth isn't as good as in my 29 gallon aquarium, I was pleasantly surprised with the growth and color rendering of my plants in the nano aquarium. There are so many contributing factors that I'll leave you to explore them in the forum discussions, but for a quick overview on Amazon I'd say it's certainly better than no CO2 at all and preferable to more hardware to have inside . Tank.

Pros
  • PHOTOSYNTHESIS: Plants must produce longer-chain carbon compounds (intermediate products of photosynthesis). By dosing Flourish Excel, you bypass the involvement of chain carbon compounds and introduce ready-made, structurally similar compounds.
Cons
