Review on Lenovo C22-10 21.5" Anti-Glare Monitor with HDMI and Wall Mount – 1920x1080P, 60Hz by Matthew Rodriguez

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Very basic monitor in my review.

The Lenovo C22-10 is a very basic monitor. It offers a true HD resolution of 1920 x 1080 as well as VGA and HDMI connectivity. In terms of price, it competes with many other basic monitors and offers nothing more. The display isn't as sharp and colors aren't as accurate as our ASUS, Samsung, or Acer monitors. The assembly isn't bad, but it's not bad either. I ordered it for my husband whose old computer is limping and not quite up to his needs. He is a professional CAD designer and has been involved in 3D animation for about 20 years. He needs a good enough computer. We thought about outfitting it with an Intel Nuc and putting together what we need to build the system. It took me a while to look at it because we were having a bad Lenovo week. I first tried setting it up on a 2 month old Lenovo and first got a BIOS error and then a "Drive not found" error. Lenovo won't allow me to download drivers or a recovery disc because it says it's out of warranty and I don't have access to tech support. I then attempted to set it up on an older Toshiba that was removed by a Microsoft update that launched as soon as it booted. Eventually my daughter tried it, first with a Nintendo Classic, then with an ASUS Zenbook, and finally with an Acer desktop. I've worked with all three, which is positive, but I was surprised by the soft edges, watercolor feel of the image. Playing with the brightness helped a bit, but we've never had a picture as good and sharp as the other monitors in our house. It also doesn't have very good vision at an angle. As my daughter found, this can be a positive or negative depending on whether you want to watch a movie or video with someone, or whether you want privacy. I don't think this was intended as a feature (privacy) and poor viewing angles are generally not seen as a good thing for video displays. Overall I would rate it as a very basic, reasonable monitor and not best in class as compared to everything else in our kit. Based on my experience this week, I'm also worried about getting tech support if needed. I've never had a company refuse anyone a driver download, whether under warranty or not, and as a result I have a practically dead 2 month old laptop. My 3-star rating is based on the fact that it doesn't offer compelling value for a monitor of this size, lacks many of the current features, and has image quality that compares poorly to others in its class. This price is average, as are the features. The display is okay, but not outstanding.
