Review on Straight Ignition Lincoln Mercury Compatible by Tim Knain

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Let's get back to business. No more skipping or wobbling 2005 Expedition

I dabbled in "jumping", "galloping" as listed by Andrew Cudi in his review for some time, and eventually I got tired of it. I have never contacted a dealer as I am a DIY enthusiast. I've always had a check engine light and misfiring. I had already replaced 2 spark plugs and ignition coils when it started playing again. I read somewhere that the coils should be changed after 100,000km and decided to finally replace them all, even though 2 of them were fairly new. My Expo 05 truck has clocked up 130,000 miles and that was the only issue that bothered me the most. I spent about 90 minutes removing the coils and spark plugs because they had been in there for 7 years and less than 50,000 miles since the last adjustment. My spark plug socket didn't have the rubber inside to pull the spark plug out, so I disassembled the old coil and used the rubber end to pull it out. (improvised) I smeared each cork with lube and let it sit for 30 minutes. I was afraid it would break on the way out and tried to avoid it at all costs. Once removed, they could be reinserted. I am happy to report that after new spark plugs (automotive) and these coils, my truck is running like new again. It works so well that when you stop it seems like it's turned off. But I'm listening to 5.4 :) It's only been a few days since installation, but I'll update this review if anything happens.
