Low SWR, magnet strong enough for off-road!

I bought this as a temporary replacement for my regular Firestik setup on my Xterra as I broke the mount for this antenna and didn't have time to install it before my next planned outing to repair. The antenna has a nice strong magnetic base with a scratch resistant rubber cap on the bottom. The cable is already connected through the base to the antenna, which is attached to the spring with a small screw on the side of the top of the spring. Installation was easy as I only tapped it about 6 inches into the center of the hood. I then routed the cable to the corner of the driver's side windshield, attached it to the existing Firestik firing antenna cable, then routed it up the driver's side window, reattached it to the wetbox side and roof rails before attaching it to the outside lowered the rear door on the driver's side As this will be a temporary installation I just closed the door with a cable. then in the car to a CB located in the armrest between the front seats, with a few meters of extra cable. The antenna came out with an SWR of 1.2, which honestly I couldn't improve on, but for me it did. To adjust the pitch, simply loosen the set screw at the top of the spring, then pull the antenna in or out before re-tightening the set screw. I found this method easy and only found the set screw loose once after weeks of use. If that bothers you, just put a drop of Loctite on the set screw and it should never move! I also wanted to mention that the antenna is powerful enough for this purpose. Because this "temporary" antenna works so well, I'll be using it for the rest of the season until I have time to install a new permanent antenna mount. I've driven thousands of miles on the interstate with it on the hood with no problems. When it's low and in the middle of the hood I've also found that only very low/thick branches can knock it off the magnet base (which just knocked the whole thing over until you could get out and reattach it). Light and medium blows from the branch do not phase out this antenna at all! Overall I am very happy with this antenna. I would recommend it to anyone looking for a temporary or rarely used off-road antenna. It exceeded my expectations in every way and at this price it really was a steal!
