It wasn't obvious but the timer defaults to light metering mode, NOT intermittent (24 hour) timer mode! To put it in timer mode, it must be plugged in. with the dials already set to the minimum and then IMMEDIATELY set them to the maximum. This setting is then saved every time you connect it. After completing the initial setup, this is a good timer. I like that the dials are analogue and unlike the digital ones, they are easy to see and adjust.
