It took a bit of fiddling to get the battery in the remote right. The instructions in the remote control and the small instruction booklet do not make it clear which side of the battery is facing out. For the record, the negative side (-) faces the user. The plug was clearly worn, the three prong wire protector had been removed from the plug and a small piece of plastic preventing the battery from contacting the remote had been removed and was in the box. If you get a really "new" device, I think it's a normal product, but something strange happened to what I received. Works great, just looks a little "used". Your experience may vary.
