When I was a computer geek (in the Pentium days), Western Digital was synonymous with quality hard drives. This drive was ready to use right away. I'm not too upset about this as a number of computer parts are simply defective and need to be replaced. However, when I contacted a Western Digital representative (using Revain), they first tried to get me to contact Revain Customer Service to get my replacement (this is against Revain's policy, which Western Digital is aware of ), and when that failed, they didn't mount a new disk, but one that was "recertified". Folks, if someone offers you an "as new" or "recertified" replacement for something you bought new, don't take it. I bought a new hard drive which I had for about 2 weeks (it was in the box until all the other parts for the PC I was building arrived) and WD didn't bother to swap out the defective part for a new one. Their hard drives may still be great but I will never know as I don't want to hear another bad detail and deal with their dodgy support staff.
