I'm currently renting an apartment with a terrible bathroom floor. It was old linoleum and looked ugly. I didn't want to spend a lot of money on a place I don't own and also wanted to avoid making permanent changes since it's a rental so I decided to try cheap contact paper. I cleaned the linoleum very well first, let the floor dry completely, and then laid out the contact paper. After I was done I put on new silicone caulk (which the owner had around the edges of the linoleum instead of the wood edge) to keep the edges from peeling and water leaking through. That looks great! You can't even see the seams. It fits very well and even if you think it will be too thin to walk on, it holds up very well. No breaks or damage. Looks like I just laid a real floor. In addition, it is water-repellent and easy to clean. As long as you don't scratch it with sharp objects or sharp furniture, it won't be damaged or worn out. At home I usually always wear socks or slippers, sometimes barefoot. No damage yet, looks beautiful, I recommend! Very easy to install and much cheaper than self-adhesive tiles or other options. If you are unhappy with the flooring anywhere in your rental, I would definitely recommend finding a wood colored contact paper and trying it out! It took me 2 rolls to cover a 5' x 8' area and there wasn't much left. As someone else mentioned, purple is hard to spot, and light blue/turquoise and tan and gray are the most noticeable. So if you want to look purple this might not be for you but blue/tan/grey are very well pretty. I now have a 'new' bathroom floor for only $40. $30 for 2 rolls of contact paper and about $10 for silicone sealant. A very cheap and practical rental solution!
