I was able to use these cables to transfer data from the hard drive to a NAS device that had its firmware rewritten. The NAS device could not see my previous partitions. I had to remove the hard drive and connect it to another Linux machine using a SATA to USB cable. Ubuntu-Linux recognized the "missing" partitions and allowed me to read/write those partitions. The transfer of data in the gigabyte range takes a few minutes at most. Remember to ensure adequate ventilation of external components! Much luck.
