I've had several personal humidifiers. The addition of the plant is awesome and brings a bit of calm to my work life. With these desktop humidifiers, the filter and water should not be left together overnight. So every day I remove the filter and filter housing and drain the water. Allow the filter to sit on top and dry when not in use. Your filter will last longer and your car will never smell bad. Even if it breaks after a few months, I will buy it again. The plant loves it too.
