Nice little amplifier on receivers and amplifiers

amplifier sounds very good. It's quiet with no noticeable hiss and approaches clipping without harshness. Using a decent 12V Vicor power supply with a pair of Dual LU43Ps I'm seeing an average of around 200mA at a reasonable terrace volume with plenty of headroom for amplification. It operates at around 75mA and peaks at 3A at the neighbor's volume, so it's likely these 12V speakers can put out around 10W. To approach 30W would require the chip's maximum operating voltage of 18V at around 3A and truly 4 ohm speakers, but I have no reason to doubt it's possible. One thing to note is that there was no thermal paste between the chip and the heatsink. I removed the hardware and put some paste inside. It seems to disperse heat well, but the amp still gets heated. The heatsink is probably a bit small and not quite properly aligned for sustained high performance. Time will tell (hasn't shut down yet due to thermal protection) but I think it will need a small fan. In general, this is a good amp, I'm happy with the quality and sound for $20. Should do more than enough.

  • home theater
Cons
  • too long to wait
